Mountains Beyond Mountains: The Quest of Dr. Paul Farmer, a Man Who Would Cure the World

to save the poor now or to save the poor in the future is a hard question. but I think we need someone on both. to me, it may be understood like trying to save the Internet means trying to save the poor in near future at least. I believe open communication infrastructure and free flow of information would help the situation. if adding low cost open communication devices like $100 laptop per child as an ingredient, whole process may be accelerated.

while most of current material world businesses have tendency of "0% material cost, 0% expenses, 100% profit" to run it, countries where physical materials are only thing to sell may be forced to stay poor. if they can shift to information economy there is a chance the balance may change. if no one try on this part, the situation may stay the same.
[this is good]
As the book indicated apparently some people have said Paul Farmer should be spending more time on advocacy activities at a high level in order to convince others to get involved and to mobilize additional resources. It is an interesting argument, but I trust Paul Farmer to strike the best balance for himself and "do the right thing". FYI - NYU will be broadcasting a live webcast with Paul Farmer this Tuesday May 8th at 12p. (link can be found at http://thdblog.wordpress.com)
Great book, really worth reading. If you want more info check out the summary here, which might pique your interest if you haven't heard of the book.
